After a while, when she was feeling coherent again, she’d found the Bailey monogrammed tee shirts and shorts, along with a selection of undies. The bathroom, on further inspection, held a wide selection of soaps, shampoos and makeups.

From the bathroom, she called out to the living room, “You must have quite a storehouse of women’s necessities. Whataya you do, cycle through it every week, or something?”

He appeared at the door. “What do you mean?”

“Well, there’s so many things here for women. You must have quite the parade through here.”

He looked at her for a moment. “No, I just wanted to make sure you had what you needed if you decided to stay here for the night.”

She went still. “This is all for me? It’s not something you … stock?”

“No. I don’t stock anything. I had Penny go out and gather every conceivable thing she thought you might want. Penny is my PA. She runs my life.”

Bailey took a breath. “I see.”

Carstead smiled at her and exited from the doorway, his voice floating back, “Bacon and eggs in five minutes.”

Bailey was entranced by the man. He seemed to be the best liar on the planet or at least one of the most interesting ones. Or both. So, she completely forgot about checking in with Olive. Which, of course, was just as well since Olive had her phone off the hook.
